石見なりわい大学
土着の科学技術を
教わりながら育み合う
日本全国、各地域にはそれぞれ長い歴史とともに息づく伝統文化・産業があります。私たちはその「なりわい（生業）」に焦点をあて、「なりわい=ART=土着の科学技術」と定義付けました。その土地ならではの科学技術は学びの宝庫です。
様々な要素で成り立つ科学技術を分解・編集し、「豊かな暮らし〔LIFE〕」を創造するために、カリキュラム化することで学びの場をつくろうとしています。
江津の跡市・有福温泉エリアを拠点とし、過去数回に渡って「なりわいキャンプ in 石見」と称して、実験的にカリキュラムを体験するキャンプ型イベントを実施してきました。自身が体験し、学びを深めることで、地産地育を実現できる「教育事業者」を育成する実施研修の側面も目的としてきました。
私たちが考える教育事業者とは、教育環境を創出し、継続できる仕組みをつくり、運営していくこと。その教育環境を発展できる⼈材を求めています。今後のまちづくりには、このようなクリエイティブなプレイヤーが必要不可欠であると考えています。

「なりわい＝ART＝土着の科学技術」
を、「学び」に変換・編集し、地産地育のカリキュラムを開発します。
Throughout Japan, each region possesses traditional cultures and industries that thrive alongside their long histories. We focus on these “livelihoods (nariwai)” and define them as “livelihood = ART = indigenous science and technology.” The unique science and technology of each place is a treasure trove for learning. We break down and edit the science and technology composed of various elements, developing them into curricula to create “rich living [LIFE].”
Over the past few sessions, we have held camp-style events called “Nariwai Camp in Iwami” to experimentally experience this curriculum. These events also serve as practical training to cultivate “educational practitioners” who can realize locally produced, locally nurtured education through their own experiences and deepened learning.
The educational practitioners we envision are those who create educational environments, establish sustainable systems to operate them, and develop the human resources capable of advancing these environments. We believe such creative players are indispensable for future community development.

石見なりわい大学が提供するものは「エデュケーション・ツーリズム」です。この土地で継承される文化と産業を知り、触れて、体験し、興味関心をもってもらうこと。そして自身の日常や仕事、暮らしの糧としてもらうこと。
さらに言えば、石見地方、江津とのコミュニティに加わっていただき、全国各地それぞれの地域で石見なりわい大学的な活動が開催される未来を見据えています。

石見なりわい大学のカリキュラム
ARTの語源は、ラテン語の「アルス（ars）=モノの見方」から派生し、学問と学習の技術、学習や練習の結果としての技法という意味があります。現在の所謂 ART = 芸術という概念になったのは、産業革命以降、科学が発展していった結果、科学力を駆使して実用的なものを作る技術を Technology（テクノロジー）と呼ぶようになり、 あらゆる技術に対して使われていた「art」の意味が狭まって、装飾や美的なものを創造する技術に対して使われるようになったと考えられています。
石見なりわい大学では、「なりわい=ART=土着の科学技術」をカリキュラム構成の最上位概念と位置付け、 ART（モノの見方）の感覚を身に付けた上で豊かな暮らし〔LIFE〕を創れる技術や考え方を、「なりわい人」を教材として、参加者のみならず開催者も共に学び合う設計にしています。

Goals
Iwami Narai University offers “Education Tourism.” We aim for participants to learn about, engage with, and experience the culture and industries passed down in this land, sparking their interest and curiosity. We also hope they incorporate these experiences into their daily lives, work, and livelihoods.
Furthermore, we envision a future where participants join the communities of the Iwami region and Gotsu, and where activities inspired by Iwami Narai University are held in various regions across Japan.
Our Curriculum
The origin of the word ART derives from the Latin “ars” meaning “a way of seeing things,” signifying the techniques of scholarship and learning, as well as the skills resulting from study and practice. The concept we now call ART = art emerged after the Industrial Revolution. As science advanced, the technology harnessing scientific power to create practical things came to be called Technology. Consequently, the meaning of “art,” which had been applied to all forms of technology, narrowed. It came to be used specifically for the techniques of creating decorative and aesthetic things.
At Iwami Narai University, “Narai = ART = Indigenous Science and Technology” is positioned as the top-level concept in curriculum design. Participants learn techniques and ways of thinking to create a rich life [LIFE], building upon the acquired sense of ART (a way of seeing things). This is achieved through a design where both participants and organizers learn together, using “Narai practitioners” as teaching materials.
Meeting people with livelihoods, “learning from each other while nurturing one another”
Iwami Narai University welcomes individuals like these and aims to deepen our shared learning experiences and relationships.
・Those interested in the culture and traditions of regional cities across Japan—particularly those outside major metropolitan areas—and eager to learn authentic ART (ways of seeing things).
・Those who wish to live authentically and express themselves, yet feel unsure where to begin and seek an opportunity for self-reflection.
・Those interested in the Narai University Network (a location-independent community) or who question the current education system and wish to take action.
・Those who want to create new educational spaces in their own communities.
・Those seeking ideas or solutions for team building, organizational management, communication design, etc.
・Those considering relocation to the Iwami region or seeking interaction with people already living in Iwami.
